Thermoforming: A Revolutionary Tool for Interior Design and Architecture

Tuesday, June 19th, 2012

What is Thermoforming?

Thermoforming is a cost-effective and efficient way to manipulate plastic to create custom interior architectural designs and structures. Common products made by thermoforming include Baby Bathing Bowls, Modular Vanities, Bathroom Partitioning Systems, and Wall Panels.

What is the Thermoforming Process?

The thermoforming process involves the heating and molding of temperature-sensitive materials, known as thermoplastics. Once the thermoplastic cools, it once again becomes extremely hard. This creates a new, usable product.

Healthcare Facility Technology: Baby Bathing Bowls

Thursday, April 12th, 2012

A baby’s first bath needs to be calm, soothing, and, most importantly, safe. This is the challenge that many healthcare facilities face. How do you accomplish all three of these aspects?

The answer: A Custom Baby Bathing Bowl from A.S.S.T.

A.S.S.T. and St. Joseph’s Hospital in Towson, Maryland worked together to design a baby bathing bowl that benefits both the child and the caregiver. Each of our bowls is custom created and integrated into the existing décor.

Other benefits of these Baby Bowls include:

  • Each bowl is integrated into the countertop of the healthcare facility.
  • The bowl has an indentation for the child’s head and bottom to create a safe, secure environment.
  • Nurses and health care providers won’t have to bend, kneel or hunch over when bathing the child, preventing nagging aches and pains.
  • Since the child’s head and bottom are safely positioned, health care providers can use both hands during the entire bathing procedure.
  • A.S.S.T.’s Baby Bathing Bowls ensure that everyone feels good at bath time.

Bring safety, security and soothing calm to your hospital’s most precious clients with a Baby Bathing Bowl from A.S.S.T.!

Thermoforming: Description and Benefits

Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

What is thermoforming?

What are the benefits of thermoforming?

What can thermoforming be used for?

There are so many frequently asked questions about thermoforming, because the general public really has no idea what thermoforming even is. So we at A.S.S.T. have decided to shed a little light on this often-confusing topic.

First of all, what is thermoforming?

Well, it is the overarching term used for the manufacturing process of producing plastic forms by manipulating a rigid, flat sheet of plastic under temperature and pressure. These sheets, known as thermoplastics, come in varying gauges depending on their intended purposes. Thermoforming also utilizes several different types of molds, including:

Machined Aluminum: Typically built for shallow molds with small draw ratios, these molds are mounted on a temperature control base to control temperature during the forming process.

Cast Aluminum: These molds are formed at a foundry, with the temperature controls cast into the back and sides of the mold. These are typically used for parts with large draw ratios.

Composite: These molds, which have a limited life, are for vacuum forming only and are not temperature controlled.

Next, what are the benefits of thermoforming?

Thermoforming is a cost-effective and efficient way to produce many plastic products.

Finally, what products can be made using thermoforming?

Thin-gauge thermoforming is the primary manufacturing process used to create disposable plastic cups, containers, lids, trays, etc. Thick-gauge thermoforming is used to make parts as diverse as vehicle doors and dashboards, refrigerator liners, and plastic pallets.

Thermoforming can be utilized to make almost anything, from baby bathing bowls and modular vanities to bathroom partitioning systems, custom wall panels, and everything in between!

When you combine skilled craftsmen with technology and tools that are state of the art, the results are impressive.
