Healthcare Facility Technology: Baby Bathing Bowls

Thursday, April 12th, 2012

A baby’s first bath needs to be calm, soothing, and, most importantly, safe. This is the challenge that many healthcare facilities face. How do you accomplish all three of these aspects?

The answer: A Custom Baby Bathing Bowl from A.S.S.T.

A.S.S.T. and St. Joseph’s Hospital in Towson, Maryland worked together to design a baby bathing bowl that benefits both the child and the caregiver. Each of our bowls is custom created and integrated into the existing décor.

Other benefits of these Baby Bowls include:

  • Each bowl is integrated into the countertop of the healthcare facility.
  • The bowl has an indentation for the child’s head and bottom to create a safe, secure environment.
  • Nurses and health care providers won’t have to bend, kneel or hunch over when bathing the child, preventing nagging aches and pains.
  • Since the child’s head and bottom are safely positioned, health care providers can use both hands during the entire bathing procedure.
  • A.S.S.T.’s Baby Bathing Bowls ensure that everyone feels good at bath time.

Bring safety, security and soothing calm to your hospital’s most precious clients with a Baby Bathing Bowl from A.S.S.T.!

What is a Corian Wall?

Friday, August 5th, 2011

Many companies seem to avoid high-pressure situations because they don’t have faith in their employees and equipment. Meanwhile, A.S.S.T. is willing to do what others avoid.

We’ve been in the business for more than a decade, and working with diverse clients is one of our favorite things to do. Difficult jobs with short timelines allow us to roll up our sleeves and get down to work. From decorative wall panels to bathroom partitions and modular vanities A.S.S.T. gets the job done right.

We utilizes only the best materials available to provide you, the customer, with some of the highest quality and most unique designs around. One of these products we love to use is Corian®.

Corian is the brand name for a solid surface material created by DuPont, composed of acrylic polymer and alumina trihydrate. With the help of thermoforming, Corian conforms to your imagination and your designs. It makes undulating curves, waves, and free-form organic patterns possible.

The benefits of Corian include:

•     Available in over 100 colors and unlimited custom

•     Stain resistant

•     NSF/ANSI Standard 51 Certified for food contact

What is Thermoforming?

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

A.S.S.T. is willing to do what others avoid as we go Beyond Surface Level Solutions.

Our state-of-the-art plant is geared toward creating solutions for the commercial construction market. As a leader in solid surface fabrication A.S.S.T. builds beauty that lasts. We employ several techniques that we feel give us that competitive edge over other companies. One of those techniques is thermoforming.

But what is thermoforming? This article from eHow.com explains.

Thermoforming is the process of heating and molding temperature-sensitive materials to create a new, usable product. This process uses sheets of a polymer called thermoplastic, which is heated to increase pliability. Once the desired level of heat is met, the material is molded by one of three methods:

Vacuum Thermoforming: the sheet of material is laid on a concave mold and pulled inward to adhere to the shape of the mold with vacuum pressure. Tiny holes in the mold provide the suction, without affecting the shape of the finished product

Pressure Thermoforming: the sheet is laid on a convex mold shape and pressed down on the mold

Mechanical Thermoforming: uses a machine to press the sheet into a concave mold with a convex mold, pressing the sheet between the two molds.

Once the thermoplastic cools, it once again becomes extremely hard. Common products made by thermoforming include bathtubs, shower stalls and boat hulls.
